Glenwood Cemetery will celebrate Appreciation Day, Sunday Aug 16, with activities for the whole family.
A free youth nature photography outing will be held at 1:15, led by Phil Norton, and will include basic DSLR, pocket camera and phone camera instruction. Participants will explore the rich floral, forest and wetland habitats at the cemetery and along Marsh Creek. The tour will take about 45 minutes and parents may also participate.
At 2pm there will be a dedication of a monument to Kate the swan goose who was killed this spring. Visitors will be invited to take a moment to remember Kate and celebrate memories.
At 2:30, historic walking tours will invite guests to explore Glenwood’s spectacular Victorian Cemetery, set on 62 acres in the heart of Picton.
The cemetery, founded in the 32nd year of the reign of Queen Victoria, is still one of the most serene places to take a stroll in Prince Edward County. Discover its rich past as an experienced guide Peter Lockyer leads a 45-minute journey back in time. Starting at the Stone Chapel and then gracefully wind through Glenwood’s network of roads and footpaths, along the way you will discover monuments of some of the County’s Victorian and notable citizens.
Throughout the afternoon, talented local musician Luke Norton will stroll through the gardens playing his fiddle.
Glenwood Cemetery’s burial records will also be available for anyone who wishes to search for information on their family.
Light refreshments will be available.
