Celebrate Victorian Christmas by candlelight at Macaulay House

Enjoy the wonder and simplicity of a Victorian Christmas as Macaulay House in Picton hosts its last of three weekends Saturday, Dec. 5 from 1-6p.m.

The halls are decked in traditional 1850s style and guides dressed in period costume are available to show you around, answer questions and share customs.

Visitors should ask about the tradition of the Christmas tree pickle and why there would be strings hanging from the light in the dining room.

The heart of the home, of course, is the kitchen where volunteers are cooking up samples such as soup, cookies and Welsh cakes over an oven fire.

On Sunday, enjoy cider and sweets at a Settler’s Christmas at the Ameliasburgh Museum’s Log Cabin – part of Christmas in Ameliasburgh activities that include horse-drawn wagon rides and crafts at the library. See below:
