Charges related to BB gun shots in Picton

An arrest has been made in relation to BBs being shot at local businesses and vehicles in downtown Picton.

Prince Edward County OPP and the East region Street Crime Units (CSCU) from Prince Edward County, Quinte West, Lennox and Addington were continuing the investigation.

On March 3 at approximately 10 p.m. officers observed a person acting suspiciously. As police approached, the male fled on foot. After a short foot chase the male was arrested. Additional investigation revealed the male was wanted for previous offences.

As a result of the investigation a 32-year-old from Quinte West, Ontario faces Criminal Code charges of Mischief Under $ 5,000, Resist Peace Officern and two counts of Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody with a scheduled March 7 court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.

OPP seeks public’s help to investigate BB gun damage in Picton

FEB. 8 – Prince Edward OPP seek assistance from the public to solve a series of at least six mischiefs in the Picton area since December involving pellets or BBs (air gun shooting metal spheres) being shot, causing damages to property, including windows.

Constable Aaron Miller states there have been reports from both individuals and businesses.

“It is believed these are not targeted occurrences and there have been no injuries reported,” he said. “Officers will be conducting follow up investigation with the assistance of the East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU). The identified person(s) responsible for the damage will be charged accordingly.”

He notes individuals and businesses are also reminded to register their video cameras on www.camsafe.ca. CAMSafe is designed to provide a starting point for officers to gather evidence by obtaining video footage to assist in an investigation. For example, if a crime occurs in your neighbourhood, an officer can log into CAMSafe, determine who has cameras registered and request footage from the owners. CamSafe is a voluntary, community-driven program and participants can add or delete their information at any time and only police have access to your details.

Prince Edward OPP are asking anyone who may have information regarding this occurrence to report it by calling 1.888.310.1122. People who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or submit a tip online at www.crimestoppersquinte.ca where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

  1. Susan says:

We have had our front window damaged by a pellet gun twice now, once about 7 years ago when no one was home and again two years ago when I was sitting in front of the window. Both were reported and never heard anything further. I asked if anyone else had reported anything, but never heard back. Our most recent attack broke a side window, and looks like we were part of that recent rampage. We did not bother reporting it this time. Now I see that others were involved and that the police are now making an effort to find who did this. I really hope they do this time!
