Cheers to Glenn Kozak – Business Person of the Year

Glenn Kozak has been involved in a variety of business ventures over the last forty years.  However the events at the 14th annual Quinte Business Achievement Awards ceremony, held Friday October 21st at the air force museum in Trenton, left him feeling “like a deer caught in the headlights”.  In front of a gala crowd of 300 people including mayors, various celebrities and dignitaries, he was honoured with the prestigious Business Person of the Year award.  This award recognizes an outstanding business person who has contributed to the success of a local business and made a difference in the community.

Mr. Kozak, the manager of the clubhouse at the Picton Golf and Country Club, admits to being totally surprised by the award.  “ I have no idea who nominated me.  While I was flattered by this nomination, I was totally surprised at the outcome as I was the only nominee of nine in this category who did not own a business,” he said in a recent interview.

Larry Richardson, president of the golf club was less surprised by Mr. Kozak’s recognition.  “ Glenn has made a terrific contribution to our club.  He has revamped our food and beverage service into a first class facility that receives rave reviews from our members and guests.  He has taken a marginal operation and made it a profitable branch of our club,”

Mr. Kozak brought a wealth of experience to the Picton Golf and Country Club.  Prior to moving to Ontario he spent years developing  several fast food services in Calgary.  Fifteen years ago he moved his family to Toronto and opened a Moxie’s restaurant in the Fairview Mall. He and his wife Judy operated this franchise for eleven years until they moved to Trenton in 2008.  His retirement was brief as he immediately began a home inspection business.  He soon joined the Trenval Business Development Corporation where  he remains as vice- president and a member of the investment committee that oversees a pool of six million dollars of capital used for start up businesses or expansion plans.  As well he is a member of the economic development committee for Quinte West.

Two years ago an ad in a local paper caught Mr Kozak’s  attention and he applied for the position of food and beverage manager at the Picton Golf Club.  Established in 1907, the club is one of the oldest in the province.   A newly elected Board of Directors was looking to develop a new approach toward customer service and to promote the facility throughout the community.  “ I was really keen to become part of this operation as it was a challenging position . It was a real world business with real world dollars where there are consequences for success or failure,” he said.

Mr Kozak’s success in revamping one of Quinte’s oldest established institutions and positioning it in the forefront of the food and beverage industry in the area has been appreciated by all those who golf and dine at the Picton Golf and Country Club.  His success has now been recognized by his peers in the business community.
