Clic! – Photographic works of art in Arts Council’s newest show

Clic! Eastern Ontario Photography Show is the newest “baby” arts event to be presented by the Prince Edward County Arts Council.

For nine days this summer, July 31st to August 8th, CLIC, a juried show and sale of photographic works of art, will take place in the second floor gallery of Books & Company at 289 Main Street in Picton, Ontario. Several awards will be presented at the opening ceremony, including Best of Show and the Doug Boult Photography Award.  The Doug Boult Award was created for Art in the County and presented at that show to the most outstanding work of photographic art.  This year the Arts Council asked CLIC to present that award in a more suitable setting, CLIC.
The inauguarl show was open to photographers of all ages and all backgrounds of experience who reside in the Eastern Ontario cachment area.  Sixty-six photographers met the June 25th deadline with home addresses from Port Hope and Peterborough to Kingston and Ottawa.  Each entrant was entitled to submit three pieces for consideration by the CLIC jury and of the one hundred and ninety-nine works submitted, one hundred and eight were accepted into the show by the three-person jury.

The CLIC jury was made up of experienced arts professionals and included:
Paulette Greer, who has more than 30 years’ experience as an art gallery curator, the past 16 as owner of the popular SideSteet Gallery in Wellington, Ontario. A respected critic with prior jury experience, and a strong eye for photographic composition, she is frequently called upon to guide the photographers in her ‘stable’ of 70 artists. Paulette brings not only a wealth of experience to this Jury, but also a reputation as a fair- minded professional.

Brant Cowie, owner and founder of Revue Design Gallery Artplus in Belleville, is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design. He has been involved in graphic design for 35 years and has worked with national and international publishers designing and producing many books, including work by Freeman Patterson and John & Janet Foster. Brant has also worked with the Banff Centre for Art and has won numerous awards for hispublication designs.

Pat LaCroix spent his working career as a commercial advertising photographer who has shot campaigns for many major corporations and received more than 70 national and international awards for his photographic work, including a lifetime achievement award from The Canadian Association of Photographers and Illustrators in Communications. He has lectured extensively to photography students as well as to professional photograph associations in Canada and the U.S.A. He enjoys shooting a range of subjects; since his retirement he has devoted time to creating art photographs and iconic stock images.
All three jurors were overwhelmed by the quality of the submissions and agreed that the “Best in Show” winning piece was outstanding.  The jury was not told the names or given any biographical information during their judging but, all three agreed the work of the youngest entrant was The Best in Show.
Clic! Eastern Ontario Photo Show will be sharing the arts stage this year with Art in the County, PEC Jazz Festival, The Makers Hand, The Prince Edward County Studio and Gallery Tour and the Prince Edward County Music Festival.
