Comics ‘salgood’ in the County

Sal Good

Salgood Sam

The Picton Library spread the love for comics and sequential art with comics creator Salgood Sam at the library’s Comics and Graphic Novels Launch.

Salgood Sam (as in “it’s all good, Sam”), a 2013 Joe Schuster Award nominee, shared his experience in the world of comics, from his time with Marvel, to his most recent independent work. Fans are followers of his widely read comic news blog Sequential.

“Graphic novels, as a medium, have exploded in the last 10 years,” he said. “It is the single fastest growing segment of the book market, where everything else in publishing is contracting, graphic novels are growing”

Christine Renaud, manager of the library’s communications and outreach, offers special thanks to the comics lovers in Prince Edward County whose generous donations of more than 500 graphic novels and comics for adults have made the library’s collection one of the best in the province.

Following the library event,  fans gathered at the Acoustic Grill for the monthly Comix Jam to continue their conversations with Sam who is founder of the Monthly Montreal Comix Jam that inspired the similar monthly event in Picton.

  1. Liz says:

    Thanks,Milé & Countylive!

Tomorrow (Wed. October 9th) at 7 p.m. we’ll be starting the new comics reading club – for any adults who read graphic novels (or maybe you’ve always wanted to try one?) Read anything good lately? Tell us about it! Have something cool to show? Bring it in! Heard any interesting comics news? Let’s discuss!

For anything to do with comics & graphic novels at the library please contact me at liz@peclibrary.org – I’m interested to hear suggestions from the community about titles we should purchase, events we should host and more!

  2. This was an excellent event that I hope sets a precedent for many more to come.

Kudos to Liz, Christine, The Library itself, and, of course, Max (Salgood Sam), for organizing an informative, inspiring, and entertaining evening.

    THANKS!

    Milé
