Kinsmen Club of Picton members, spouses, friends and supporters helped raise about $6,000 for various projects in the County during Saturday night’s sixth annual charity auction.

While the total is yet to be announced, Kinsmen president Phil St Jean thanked the crowd at the Picton Legion, the Kinettes, and the support of the community with donations for the evening.

“The community’s individuals and businesses donated all that is here tonight – valued at about $14,000. Over the past five years were have contributed back $140,000 into the community.”

Receiving a giant cheque at the charity event, was the PEC Relay for Life fundraiser for the Cancer Society, with representatives Shari and Rachel Hardon and Lori McGinnis receiving $1,500 from the club members.

“We thank you very much for this donation,” said McGinnis. “Every dollar helps the people in our community.”

Over the past five years the club has supported Hospice Prince Edward, the ROC, the PECMH Foundation, Relay for Life, the Regent Theatre, County FM, Prince Edward Minor Ball Hockey, and more.

St Jean also thanked the evening’s special guests handling the bucket draws and silent auctions, mayor Robert Quaiff, councillor Kevin Gale; and live auctioneer Adam Miller.

As well as the charity auction, the club holds events throughout the year – including a charity golf tournament, electronics recycling and barbecues, but is also known for their Thursday night television bingo games, on the local cable channel for more than 30 years.
