Consecon Community Day fun for the whole family – Aug. 4

Consecon urban transit – a free haywagon shuttle ran all day at last year’s event.

On Saturday, August 4th from 8 am until the awesome event closing evening Street Dance on Mill Street, the public is invited to take part in Consecon Community Day 2012. A day-long festivities-filled occasion with something for everyone.

Kicking off the day is the Car Boot Sale right on Loyalist Parkway (Highway 33) your gateway to Prince Edward County, in the Emm’s Restaurant parking lot featuring sellers from all over Eastern Ontario or do your bargain hunting at the area-wide Garage and Yard Sales which will also be taking place at the same time. Free hop-on, hop-off horse drawn wagon rides from Emm’s Restaurant around the village.

From 9 am, Consecon Centennial Park will host Kids game zone for Egg Race, Sack Race, Three Legged Race, Face Painting and Tattoos, the ‘Discovering Consecon’ puppet show and paper bag puppet-making workshop & RJ the Balloon Dude.

The Consecon branch of the County of Prince Edward Public Library & Archives invites all children to come to the library from 10am until race time to create flags to help cheer on the racers. The Friends of the Consecon and Ameliasburgh library will also be holding a book sale at the library starting at 10am.

From 1 pm until the last racer crosses the finish line, our feature event of the afternoon the 2nd annual Consecon Soap Box Derby will take place on the Mill Street hill. Free registration, open to both boys and girls ages five through 12 begins at Noon. Kids don’t need a soapbox car to compete; we have cars available for those children who don’t have their own.

Enjoy the evening Pig Roast for adults with hot dogs and hamburgers for the kids back on the Consecon Legion patio.

After dinner, come out to listen or better still, dance the evening away to the Country and Classic Rock sounds of ‘Whiskey Overdrive’ at the Street Dance being held on Mill Street in front of the Consecon Legion and Masonic Hall.

To all those planning to attend remember do not forget to bring your lawn chairs. Celebration collaborated by the Ameliasburgh Ward 4, Recreation Committee and (CARA) the Consecon and Area Ratepayers Association Inc. 1. Nick Nowitski, Ameliasburgh Councillor says:

What a great weekend for the event! The weather was a bit warm, but not as warm as the Consecon Community Spirit. This was evident by the numerous yard sales through out the Village. and the record number of participants (both young and young at heart) racing the clock in the soapbox carts. A packed Legion Hall and patio provided enough room for all to enjoy the B-B-Q pig, sides and desserts. After dinner, ‘Whisky Overdrive’ had the Consecon downtown area swinging and swaying to their Rock/Country tunes for hours.

A great job by the organizers; Consecon and Area Ratepayers Association Inc. (CARA) and the many volunteers, as well as the sponsors; Ameliasburgh REC Committee, local businesses and area campgrounds.

If you missed the event mark your calendar for next year.
