Council supports idea of long-term lease for ROC at Picton Town Hall

Council has supported a proposal for a long-term lease agreement with the Recreational Outreach Centre (ROC) to take over the lower floor of the Picton Town Hall.

The deal is supported in principle, contingent on the ROC securing funding for renovations.

The arrangement helps the Picton Town Hall Board of Management, which assumed operations last year, with its plan to achieve full cost-recovery for the facility while maintaining availability of community space on both levels.

The ROC seeks the relocation to provide its expanded Youth Inclusive Program and to have confidential office space not available at its current location on Main Street.

There are no direct costs to the County with the lease, however the municipality is paying an estimated $4,500 for an Environmental Phase One Assessment – initially planned for February 2018, but cancelled when the sale of the building did not take place. The assessment ensures the structural integrity and safety of the building to move forward with renovations.

The ROC is a registered charity that supports the success of youth in the County with opportunities, mentorship and programs that contribute to a healthier community.
