County Duplicate Bridge goes high tech

The County Duplicate Bridge Club entered the high-tech age with the introduction of a wireless computerized scoring system.

Scores are sent to the computer for comparative scoring each time a hand is played. Within seconds of the posting the last hand of the day, full results for the entire session are are available for all to see. Previously, someone had to spend an hour or more entering the player list and socre for each hand played.

The club will host an additional game Wednesday evenings at the Picton Elks Hall beginning Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. It is expected these games will be sanctioned by the ACBL and master points will be awarded. Individual membership is not needed, but master points can only be awarded to league members. In time there will be a partnership co-ordinator, but for now, bring a partner. Everybody welcome. For more info, call Mike Finnegan at 613 476 1097.

Fabulous Four Club Foresome – Dave Hymus, Bill Gray, Greg Geddis and Jim Champagne organize approximately 8-10 tables of bridge at the curling club every Wednesday from Sept to April beginning at 1 pm. This club is known for its relaxed, fun atmosphere and unique mentoring system. Occasionally, an Instructor (Donalda) comes in to give basic bridge lessons. To add to all of this, Dave is also a gourmet cook (not chef) so there’s always two fabulous luncheons each year. Thanks Fellas! – Fran Renoy photos
