County Clippers join Ontario Basketball Association

History was made when Prince Edward County’s first ever OBA (Ontario Basketball Association) team members took to the court for their inaugural game. The County Clippers Major Bantam U14 team is comprised of 12 boys in Grades 7 and 8. The team will play some exhibition games over the next month before entering its first tournament in Toronto Dec. 13th – 15th.
Coach Rob Garden notes the team is indebted to a dozen local sponsors for helping to make the season possible.
Meanwhile, the County Clippers fall house league is coming to a close. More than 80 boys and girls in Grades K – 8 participated this year.
Each Wednesday night, players took part in a 45 minute league game, and 30 minutes of skill development. The Prince Edward County Minor Basketball Association is partnered with the basketball program at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute.
Coach Rob Garden has been impressed with the improvements he has seen over the past 10 weeks.
“In the novice league, players as young as five-years-old have learned how to dribble, pass, shoot and score!” reports Coach Garden. “In the junior and senior leagues, players are not only building on the fundamental skills, but also learning and executing game strategies. Even though the fall league is coming to a close, players won’t be off the court for too long because the Panther Hoops league will start up in March.”
