County easing financial burdens on residents, businesses

The municipality is taking steps to ease the burden on residents and businesses financially impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.

The following initiatives will be in place until April 30, 2020, at which time they will be re-evaluated:

No interest or penalties on any unpaid taxes or utility bills.
No tax arrears certificates registered on properties.
No water account disconnections

The municipality’s actions are in line with other measures to support people under financial strain as a result of the COVID-19. The provincial government has confirmed no new eviction orders will be issued until further notice. Any scheduled enforcement of eviction orders have been postponed. The province has also extended the validity period of driving products, services, and health cards.

The federal government has introduced a number of temporary income supports for workers and parents. It has extended the income tax filing deadline to June 1.

Up-to-date information on the County’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic is posted on the County website: www.thecounty.ca/county-residents/covid-19
