County launches COVID-19 telephone help line

A new toll-free County telephone line was launched today to help connect seniors, vulnerable members of the community, and residents in self-isolation with essential services and volunteer delivery of vital supplies.

Residents can call 1-833-676-2148 from 8 am to 8 pm, Monday to Friday to speak directly with County staff, who can connect them with:

Volunteer delivery of food and other essentials
Critical community services
Transportation options
Sources of accurate and reliable public health information about the COVID-19 virus

“We are particularly concerned about seniors, community members with special needs and others who may not have the necessary supports to keep themselves stocked with essentials during this time,” said Councillor Ernie Margetson, the lead of a newly formed COVID-19 task team aimed at supporting seniors and others with accessibility issues.

“It’s imperative that residents follow the recommendations of public health officials, who are requesting self-isolation for recent travellers or anyone with symptoms, as well as asking all of us to limit our time in public spaces,” Margetson said.

The County Help Line has been established by the municipality as a centralized call centre where staff can take calls and co-ordinate actions, including dispatching volunteers to pick up and make essential deliveries.
