County Marathon enters next generation supporting Hospital Foundation

In celebration of its 10th anniversary this October, the County Marathon is partnering with the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation to launch the PECMH Running Team.

marathon7The PECMH Running Team is a new concept. Together, the Marathon Committee and Foundation plan to develop opportunities for runners to become part of an exclusive team with its own newsletter, running swag, and chances to both socialize with other team members while collecting pledges from family and friends to support priority medical equipment needs at Picton Hospital. Help our hospital continue caring for our community by running and raising funds in the County Marathon. All donations are tax deductible and will be receipted.

“We are very excited about this initiative.  The success of the County Marathon with its ability to attract runners from large urban centres has in part been due to our establishment of a route ending as close to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital as possible.  This key element has helped us create one of the safest races for a participant and is why we are recognized as a great marathon. Since our inception we have worked to raise funds for our local hospital.  This new initiative of partnering with the Hospital Foundation and runners who choose to race on the PECMH Running Team provides a unique experience. The members of the Marathon Committee recognize the value of a hospital close to home,” said Mark Henry, race director.

The PECMH Foundation supports the Hospital by raising funds and awareness of the need to assist in the provision of priority medical equipment and services for all patients and members of our community. It is through the generosity of our donors that our doctors, nurses and technologists can provide quality health care to the patients at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital by purchasing state-of-the-art medical equipment and the County Marathon is proud to support the Foundation’s efforts.

“This type of community support is vital as the government DOES NOT provide funds to purchase medical equipment. It has always been the responsibility of the community, through the Foundation’s fundraising efforts, to fund capital medical equipment needs. It is because of organizations like the County Marathon, that the Foundation is able to fulfill its mission of raising money to advance health care for the people of Prince Edward County,” said Anna Marie Ferguson, executive director of the PECMH Foundation.
