County musicians raise voices to honour life of Katie Shannon

A concert celebrating the life of 23-year-old Katie Angeline Shannon is set for Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 2 pm at Picton United Church.

Katie, daughter of Michael Shannon and Jeanette Arsenault, passed away April 19 at Ottawa General Hospital after an heroic battle with cancer. She and her musician mother planned to hold this special celebration but Katie requested, “please, no long, sad, drawn out songs!”

“Kaitie was very much a part of the musical fabric in Prince Edward County since she was a small child,” said the show’s producer Suzanne Pasternak. “Like her mother, Kaitie was a gifted singer, pianist and composer. She was composing and recording music right up to the end. She would compose on her laptop in her hospital bed. Now that is a true heart of an artist. The concert features her musical community and like Kait, they are all songwriters.”

The line up of musicians performing is impressive and all have worked with Katie over the years. Included in the afternoon concert are: Emily Fennell, Mark Despault, Tom Leighton, Instant Rivalry, Lenni Stewart, Fraser Harman, Suzanne Pasternak, Kim Inch, Amy Rutherford and more.

“This will be a powerful tribute to our dear friend and colleague. Although her years were way too short, the impact she made in this world will live on.”

Admission is by memorial donations which will be forwarded to assist patients, staff and families at Ottawa General Hospital to help those with cancer. Cheques can be made out to Jeanette Arsenault in Trust.
