County receives $2.2M toward infrastructure funding

Prince Edward County’s allocation of funding toward renewing and rehabilitating infrastructure comes to $2,273,678 for 2023.

Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith announced the funding numbers today – part of $16,435,685 being delivered to four municipalities through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF).

Belleville will receive $7,610,932, Quinte West will receive $6,451,075 and Hastings County will receive $100,000.

The province provides 425 municipalities OCIF funding annually, based on a formula that is supposed to recognize different needs and economic conditions of communities.

“Our municipal partners across Ontario play a leading role in managing and maintaining a wide range of critical infrastructure like roads, bridges, and water and sewer systems. They require reliable funding to meet these challenges and plan for the future,” said Smith.

“Prince Edward County, like small, rural and Northern communities across this province, is faced with renewing and updating costly infrastructure that residents and businesses rely on every day,” said Mayor Steve Ferguson. “We appreciate that stable funding is available through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund to help
with the upkeep of our core infrastructure such as roads and bridges.”
