Countylicious a delicious taste of autumn in the County

countylicious-2014-600Prince Edward Edward County’s finest culinary delights are being served on a platter by participants in the annual autumn Countylicious.

The fixed price menus of promotion runs from Oct. 31 to Nov. 23 and offers fixed price menus of $30 or $35 at eight participating restaurants in Prince Edward County, including: Agrarian, Amelia’s Garden (Waring House), The Hubb, Merrill Inn, East and Main Bistro, Clara’s (Claramount Inn), The Drake Devonshire, and The Gazebo Restaurant (Waupoos Winery).

Followng the closure of Taste the County earlier this year (the destination marketing office that organized Countylicious in the spring and fall), a group of restaurant owners, with support from the County’s Community Developmenty department, formed the PEC Restaurant Association. Its first task was to ensure the popular event continued.

“Countylicious is one of Prince Edward County’s signature events,” said Edward Shubert, owner of the Merrill Inn in Picton. “We all agreed that it was important to the community to ensure it carried on, and we are so excited to kick off the fall campaign.”

Neil Carbone, director of community development, said the four-week long event helps local businesses when tourism slows down both in the spring and fall.

“The four-week promotion keeps inns, B&Bs, galleries, studios, wineries and other County businesses busy during a time of year that is typically known to slow down,” he said. “In addition to supporting local restaurants, Countylicious is an economic driver for tourism in Prince Edward County and we are pleased to be on board, and lend our support and co-ordination to this event.”

Merrill Inn chef Michael Sullivan said it is a great time for locals to enjoy the County fare.

“We do get a lot of people from out of town, but we also see a lot of people who live here that we don’t see other times of the year,” he said.

Restaurant goers are encouraged to reserve their table as early as possible.
