Daffodils a symbol of hope in fight against cancer

As snow flurries fall, Picton's Fran Renoy will brighten the day with her delightful basket of daffodils. She is among more than 50 Prince Edward County volunteers selling daffodils today and Friday for the Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil Days fundraiser. The daffodils are a symbol of hope that cancer can be beaten.

More than 50 Prince Edward County volunteers with the Canadian Cancer Society are selling daffodils today and tomorrow as a symbol of hope in the fight against cancer.
The society’s door-to-door campaign is launched each year with Daffodil Days and has been a springtime tradition across Canada since 1948.
Sterling Johnson, campaign co-ordinator with Rosemary Moore, said volunteers will be selling more than 1,300 bunches at various locations Thursday and Friday. Watch for volunteers at Home Hardware, No Frills, Sobeys, Metro, Giant Tiger, the Post Office, Picton Clinic and at the LCBO (in the afternoon). The flowers are $7 per bunch and $12 for two bunches.
Boxes have also been delivered to local schools participating in the campaign – PECI, Athol-South Marysburgh, Queen Elizabeth and CML Snider.
Last year, the Society sold almost 13 million daffodils from coast to coast.  The Society’s national campaign goal this year is $23 million.
Funds raised support five core priorities – research, advocacy, prevention, information and support.
