The County School of Dance students delighted their families, friends and fans at The Art of Dance 2013 recital held at the Regent Theatre on Sunday.Performers were fresh from earning top marks at the annual Orillia Opera House Dance Competition.

Willow Rasmus, received a $175 scholarship and a special award. There were four overall best trophies, one silver with honours award; six silver and eight bronze with honour awards.

Five students also travelled to the National Ballet School with teacher Brenda Cunningham to take Cecchetti ballet exams. Passing Grade One were Laura Jeffery, Sadie Mercer, Cameron Galway and Ariana Blake. Willow Rasmus passed her Grade Two exam.

Class Descriptions

Ballet – “The basis for all forms of Dance” – Classical Ballet is the best starting point for any student of dance.
Baby Ballet – For three year old beginners.
Irish – This “Riverdance” style Irish is fun for all ages. (Soft slipper only).
Eurythmics – A short movement and music class designed to enhance musicality as it applies to dance.
Jazz – Broadway style dance. Classes age 4& up.
Lyrical Jazz – Jazz and contemporary dance which interprets lyrics and expresses those
themes through movement. Ages 9+up.
Tap – Broadway style dance in tap shoes. Age 5 & up.
Hip Hop – Street dance. Age 6 & up.
Musical Threatre – Students learn Broadway musical numbers, acting dancing and lip syncing

Studio Uniform:

Black body suit – tights & dance slippers (appropriate to the discipline).
Hair Girls: Ballet – Bun, Jazz & Irish – Ponytail
No Jewellery – Studs Accepted
No Dance Skirts or Shorts (Underwear under both tights and bodysuit are unnecessary)

A little about Miss Brenda

Brenda Cunningham-Moran, L.I.S.T.D., CECCHETTI – Teacher/Choreographer/Adjudicator

An Honours Graduate of The National Ballet School, Brenda has performed with The National Ballet of Canada and The Australian Ballet.

A Certified member of the Canadian branch of The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance, L.I.S.T.D. Cecchetti, Brenda has taught dance in Huntsville for the past twenty Three years and in 2000, performed in The National Ballet School’s 40th Anniversary Celebration in Glenn Gilmour’s “The Gathering”.

Brenda is also Founder/Director of the Muskoka Ballet Scholarship Fund, Former Vice President Artistic of The Huntsville Festival of the Arts and the Ontario Representative of the Cecchetti Society of Canada. She was honoured to teach at the Cecchetti Society’s annual spring seminar at the National Ballet School in Toronto and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and choreograph the first nine seasons of The Huntsville Festival of the Arts children’s symphony/dance productions.

Ms. Cunningham’s students have been accepted into the full time professional dance/academic programs of the National and Quinte Ballet schools and The Royal Winnipeg Ballet and The Danny Grossman Dance Company. Her goal is to provide every student the individual attention and encouragement to attain self confidence, excellent technique and an enduring love of music, dance and the arts. She is thrilled to be starting her fifth successful season in Picton, where she will again present a full length Nutcracker for her students this December.
