Donate to Baby Food Drive – campaign ends Father’s Day

From Mother’s Day to Father’s Day, ‘Celebrate Babies – Celebrate Community’ by donating to the Good Baby Box program food drive.

The Community Development Council of Quinte (CDC-Q) is launching its 16th annual baby food drive  – now in its second year benefiting babies in Prince Edward County.

The Good Baby Box Program provides baby food, formula, diapers and other baby care items at reduced cost to anyone with a child under the age of two. The program opened at The Hub Child & Family Centre at 10 McFarland Court in Picton last April.

“”With our Good Baby Box program now being offered in Prince Edward County through The Hub, we would like to see some businesses, agencies, churches and individuals from the county getting involved in this food drive,” said Ruth Ingersoll, CDC-Q Executive Director. “We have wanted to expand into Prince Edward County for a long time, so this is very exciting for us. We know that the food insecurity and low income rates are just as high there.”

The CDC has a goal of 5,000 jars of baby food, which represents a 10 per cent increase of the number of jars distributed last year.  In 2014, the Good Baby Box program distributed 4,373 Good Baby Boxes to 853 families, representing 1,416 children.

Anybody can participate in the baby food drive.

“It may seem like a small gesture,”, says Ingersoll, “but it’s all about building community and everyone doing their part…one jar at a time.”

The food drive runs from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day – May 10th-June 21st.

HUBbuttonParents interested in accessing the program in the County should call 613-476-8142 for store hours and additional information.

Donations of baby food, or money, can be dropped off at The Hub Child Care Centre, 10 McFarland Court, Picton or at the CDC main office at 65 Station St., Belleville (rear entrance).
