‘Eggs’ceptional support for students’ breakfast programs

St. Gregory Catholic School students receive the province-wide donation with (from left), Charlene Landry-Kyte, Principal; Craig Hunter, Board Member of Egg Farmers of Ontario and Kellie Brace, Student Nutrition Program Coordinator, South East.

Student Nutrition Programs across Ontario will benefit from the generosity of the Egg Farmers of Ontario this year.

A cheque for $50,000, made to Student Nutrition Ontario, was presented to the staff and volunteers of the breakfast program at St. Gregory Catholic School in Picton, where a portion of the donation will be used.

“When we think of breakfast, we can’t help but think of eggs,” said Kellie Brace, Student Nutrition Program Coordinator, South East. “St. Gregory Catholic School introduced eggs into the menu of their breakfast program last year, and have continued to expand their menu, thank you to the funding received from Egg Farmers of Ontario.”

Several other schools in the province will also benefit from this contribution, which will assist schools to purchase equipment needed to serve eggs in their nutrition programs, as well as to increase the purchase of the eggs.

St Gregory Catholic School is supported by Food for Learning, the local service provider of student nutrition programs.

Food for Learning administers breakfast, snack and lunch programs throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties. During the 2018-19 academic year, 69 local schools and education sites provided more than one million meals and snacks to local elementary and secondary students.

“Having the support of local and provincial sponsors, like Egg Farmers of Ontario helps to ensure that all students are receiving the nourishment that they need to be successful during the school day,” added Brace.
