Fire department accreditation could lower your insurance costs

The County’s Fire Department successfully completed a test confirming  ability to transport water from fire hydrants to rural locations and to continuously supply water to a rural location for a minimum of two hours.

The newly achieved Superior Tanker Shuttle Accreditation confirms that Prince Edward Fire Department is capable of delivering the minimum accepted fire flows to detached dwellings within eight kilometers by road of the responding fire station. The accreditation is equivalent to the minimum requirements for hydrant protection as set out by the insurance industry and the fire underwriter’s survey.

In a news release from the County, Corporate Communications Officer Emily Tubbs notes many insurance companies recognize the Superior Tanker Shuttle Accreditation, and she notes the County encourages rural residents to contact their insurance provider to see if they qualify for a reduction in their fire insurance premium.

The fire department’s accreditation is valid until October 25, 2019. Accredited fire stations include:
– Picton Fire Station – 2 Ross Street
– Consecon Fire Station – 81 Consecon Main Street
– Rossmore Fire Station – 219 County Road 3
– Bloomfield Fire Station – 126 County Road 32
– Milford Fire Station – 3080 County Road 10
– Sophiasburgh Fire Station – 2771 County Road 5
– Wellington Fire Station – 44 Belleville Street
– Carrying Place Fire Station – 3819 County Road 3
