Fire quickly contained to small area of home

Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue responded to a structure fire on County Road 17 near Storms Road shortly after 9 a.m. Monday morning.
The fire extended through the roof and second floor of the home, but fire crews were able to knock down the flames quickly and contain the fire to a small area within the house.
The occupants of the home were alerted to the fire and immediately called 911. Fire damage has been estimated at approximately $50,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“We are thankful for the quick actions of the residents and the efficient work of our fire crews in preventing further damage,” said Fire Chief Chad Brown. “While the cause is still under investigation, we are relieved that the fire was contained to a small area and that no one was injured.”
Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue continues to monitor the situation as part of the ongoing investigation.
