Firefighters helping to spark joy for County children at Christmas

PEC firefighter John Thissen, Sparky the Fire Dog (Ken Robinson) and many others received new, unwrapped toys for children in need at Christmas.

Sparky the Fire Dog led the charge to help the Prince Edward County firefighters Association collect toys for Prince Edward County children in need at the Canadian Tire Picton store Saturday. New, unwrapped donations will support the Angel Tree campaign from its Benson Hall headquarters in Picton. Donations to bring smiles to children this Christmas are still welcome.

The firefighters will continue to accept donations until the end of November at Station 1, Picton at 8 8 McDonald Drive.

For more than 34 years, the Christmas Angel Tree campaign, led by chief angel Susan Rose, has assisted local families in need during the holidays. The success and longevity of the program has been made possible by generous donations of food, clothing, toys and financial contributions from the community.

Each year the campaign, run through The Children’s Foundation, calls on businesses and individuals to help ensure that no child goes without a memorable holiday season.

The Angel Tree office is located at 56 King Street in Picton, thanks to the Picton Kinsmen who host in their space and help with the campaign.
