Prince Edward County is wrapping up this year’s Earth Day activities with several events Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 – including composter and tree sapling giveaways and encouragement to participate in free roadside give and take.
The municipality is giving away a limited supply of composters on a first come, first served basis Saturday, May 3 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at:
South Marysburgh Landfill (1032 Old Milford Road)
Sophiasburgh Waste Transfer Station (35 County Road 14)
Picton Waste Transfer Station (27 County Road 22)
Ameliasburgh Landfill (245 Valley Road)
Residents can collect up to 10 free tree saplings (first come, first served while supplies last) per household on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at the following locations:
Lake Street Garage (115 Lake Street, Picton)
Wellington and District Community Centre (111 Belleville Street)
Ameliasburgh Town Hall (13 Coleman Street)
Varieties available will depend on the supplier. This program is only available for residents of the County. Please bring proof of residency.
The roadside large item swap is being encouraged County-wide Saturday and Sunday. Residents are encouraged to place lightly used items at the curb for other residents to take and continue to use.
People are also welcome to post their free items and location in the large item swap event page on Facebook, with an aim to help reduce greenhouse gases and improve interest in the program.
