Freezing rain warning in the County and beyond

weather-network-forecast

Spring may have sprung but winter is having a ferocious last blast today with a freezing rain warning for the County and a mixed bag of weather in many areas of southern Ontario landing just before the Easter holiday weekend.

School buses were cancelled this morning and drivers are to expect treacherous road conditions today because of significant freezing rain. Between 10 and 15mm of ice accumulation is forecast.

Today’s committee of the whole meeting at Shire Hall, expected to be packed due to a discussion on a wind turbine agreement, has been cancelled due to treacherous weather, and rescheduled for Thursday, March 31st at 1pm.
“I spoke with the duty forecaster at CFB Trenton who said heavier freezing rain is to begin close to noon and PEC is in the system,” said Mayor Robert Quaiff. “I do not wish to put my residents, council, or staff at risk.”

The municipality’s administration is also being sent home at noon. Emergency services and operations will remain open.

Environment Canada is calling for ice pellets to change to freezing rain late in the morning. Wind gusting to 60. km/h. High zero.
Freezing rain is expected to change to rain Thursday evening, ending after midnight.

Friday: Rain ending in the morning then a mix of sun and cloud. Wind becoming gusty late morning. High plus 5 with temperature falling to plus 2 in the afternoon.

Saturday: Sunny. High 8.
