Full burn ban for the County

Due to dry ground cover and foliage, Fire Chief Scott Manlow has issued a total burn ban throughout the County of Prince Edward Friday, March 20.

A total burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including brushfire, campfires, and burn barrels. The Fire Chief evaluates weather and ground conditions to determine the necessity of a burn ban. When conditions improve, the ban will be updated.

Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue reminds residents that a burning permit is required for all open air burning. Residents can apply for an annual burning permit by visiting Shire Hall (332 Picton Main Street) and the fire station in Picton (8 McDonald Drive). Burning permits cost $20 and expire at the end of the calendar year (Dec. 31, 2020). Please note that social distancing of 2m / 6.5’ must be observed while in Shire Hall and the fire station.

The municipality is working on an online system for acquiring burn permits. Further details will be announced in the coming days.
