Geese enjoy spring freshet at West Lake farm field

The Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario flood status is rated as “normal” by Quinte Conservation, as sunshine and warmer temperatures make the last bit of snow melt away.

This year, the first day of astronomical spring (spring equinox) is Thursday, March 20.

Quinte Conservation did issue a “water safety” statement on the weekend as the spring freshet (result of snow and ice melting) was expected due to rainfall and warmth. Rivers and creeks are expected to rise to normal springtime levels and will peak toward the end of the week.

Snowpack in the County has mostly been depleted and water levels in lakes and rivers are expected to reach normal conditions this year, though nuisance flooding is possible around small watercourses and ditches.
