The County hosted a dedication ceremony for George Wright Boulevard providing access from Loyalist Parkway at the new Foodland plaza, and eventually extending into the new subdivision.
Second World War veteran George Wright is one of Prince Edward County’s most distinguished soldiers, first with the Hastings Prince Edward Regiment. He was also among 13 members of the ‘Devil’s Brigade’ a legendary unit created in 1942 in Montana, composed of Canadian and American soldiers, originally as a parachute unit that would land behind enemy lines and sabotage installations. Instead, it became a versatile assault group with a reputation for specialized reconnaissance and raiding.
Wright was also a member of the Picton police force for 25 years where he eventually became Detective Sergeant. He died in December 2018 at age 98.
