Fish On! Where to weigh, what you’ll win in Kiwanis fishing derby

Walleye, pike, big prizes and a whole lot of family fun are the lures for about 5,000 anglers who enter the annual Kiwanis Walleye Weekend fishing derby this weekend.
This is the 31st year for the derby, one of North America’s largest fresh water sports fishing weekends – and the best live release fishing derby in the world. The Kiwanis Club fishing weekend has raised more than $800,000 for the club’s various community projects.
The Kiwanis have gathered more than $250,000 worth of prizes – everything from boats and motors to fishing trips, gear and tackle.

Last year, Jamie Walker landed a 17.1740-pound Pike to win the senior pike division and a 15 H.P Mercury (4 Stroke) Outboard, 14 Lund Boat with Trailer. Nick Monger’s 11.7 lb catch earned him top prize in the walleye category and – a 25 hp Lund (4 Stroke) Outboard, 16′ Lund Boat with Shorelander Trailer. Tyler Winter also snagged $1,000 when he reeled in a ‘tagged’ pike.

Registration closes Friday.
Entry Fee: Adults: $35; Junior: $15
The first 5,000 entrants will receive a free commemorative hat.

The Fishing derby will start at 12:01 a.m. Saturday May 7th, 2011 and close at 4:00p.m. Sunday May 8th, 2011. Visit the Trenton Headquarters for the closing ceremony at 5pm.
