Giant pumpkin explodes in fundraiser

CHEERS! to John and Sue Vincent who donated a 453-kilogram pumpkin to the Engineers Without Borders, a Queen’s University campus group fundraising to bring attention to ACT, a nationwide campaign asking the federal government to be more transparent with its foreign aid money, and to raise money to send a student to Africa for four months.
The pumpkin was hoisted, then fell about 50 metres from a crane to explode on the Leonard Field at Queen’s.
“It was pretty spectacular when the pumpkin fell,” says Sue Vincent. “Almost like it was in slow motion. The students raffled off tickets for who would pull the rope and the young lady that won this raffle couldn’t get the rope to release so about 20 other kids ran over and leaped on the rope along with her. It was awesome!”
They have booked another pumpkin with the Vincents for next year.
