The Glenora ferry service will be reduced on Thursday July 16, due to required maintenance.
Departures will be every 30 minutes instead of every 15 minutes.

Why is nobody talking about this? Why is this not being reported on locally and in the news? Not so much the updates on the service disruption, but about the reasons why, and the widespread impact. Glad to have a voice here. Thanks KB. I checked the news lines and yes indeed. The MTO ferries appear to be run amuck and wasted millions!!!
Absolutely – local municipal politicians should be communicating to the MPPS. And citizens should be invited to those discussions and have a say.
These issues plague not just the Glenora, but also Wolfe Island Ferry service. Each time there is a service disruption, it directly impacts workers, locals, visitors and anyone travelling for medical and business/work related reasons. Its unacceptable.
I know several workers on these ferries and I can verify that the government deliberately understaffs the boats, refuses to invest in current staff, and would rather waste $$$ bringing in outside agency workers to staff the boat – at a wopping 3- 4 times the normal cost of recruiting hew hires. It’s true that the province pays outside agency workers commercial flight fares from outside provinces, puts them up in hotels, pays all meals, and pays them 3-4 times the regular employees wages, for doing the exact same job.
Outdated, old equipment, and poor staffing decisions – my friends this will only get worse if no changes are made.
By waiting for the municipality to do anything, I’m afraid nothing will be done. It’s not even on their radar because nobody is kicking up a fuss. Our municipal politics are a bit of sham right now, and with an upcoming election, this may be a good time to start asking candidates to address the situation. Well Couny Council does have a role in the Ferry issue.It is their responsibility to advise the Provincial Gov’t of the impacts of unreliable service to our economy. Put pressure on the Ministry. And no, introducing a charge for the Ferry connecting Hwy 33 is not reasonable.
Let’s see…where to begin? Firstly, the Glenora Ferry operates entirely under Provincial jurisdiction. PEC council has nothing to do with its operation or management. The two ferries are both old and require constant maintenance. The dock equipment is subjected to repetitive wear and tear and punishing winter/ice conditions. Perhaps most importantly, this is a free service so there is no revenue accumulated to provide for new, modern equipment. This is a classic case of “getting what you pay for”. If you want better service, insist that there be a charge for the ferry. Then, in a few years time, there might be enough made to buy some newer equipment resulting in less down time.
I would suggest that everyone ask their member of Council IF this is being raised with the MTO [they may have already done this), and IF they haven’t, then ask them to do so.
This is occurring so frequently now as to be ridiculous. The service has steadily degraded over the past few years yet I don’t hear anyone on council raising it as an issue with the MTO …why?
