Greens ‘Give ’em Hull’ in Prince Edward Hastings

Roughly two-dozen Green Party of Ontario (GPO) members joined interested members of the community and GPO leader Mike Schreiner last night to select Treat Hull as Prince Edward—Hastings GPO candidate for the 2011 provincial election.
All valid votes were cast for Hull. GPO rules require a “none of the above” option to be included on a secret ballot even in the case of uncontested nominations.
In accepting the nomination, Hull reiterated his key reasons for running, including support for immediate action on the environment, vibrant communities in Ontario, entrepreneurship, a different tone in politics, and deficit reduction.

“Time is running out” for meaningful action on environmental issues such as climate change, Hull said. He also expressed “deep concern” for the financial future of Ontario and that his ultimate goal was to win the seat. “The election of even one or two Green MPPs would change the political landscape of the province,” Hull said.
With his selection, Hull becomes the first officially nominated candidate running against Liberal MPP Leona Dombrowsky. Hull – who also serves as local constituency association president – intends to continue promoting the growth of the local Green organization and, once the writ is dropped, to run a campaign focusing on positive values and the need for change and better representation for the riding.
Green Party of Ontario leader Mike Schreiner spoke about the challenge of balancing prosperity and sustainability and the Greens’ belief in “empowering and engaging communities.” Schreiner noted that Prince Edward-Hastings has potential for the party due to the riding’s demographics. “Green issues resonate here,” the Green Party leader said, referring to the GPO as “Ontario’s fastest-growing political party.”
Later, Schreiner and Hull talked to local voters at Picton’s Acoustic Grill. The two were joined by recently announced members of Hull’s campaign team including Bryan Bondy as campaign manager, Lee Tremblay as chief financial officer, René Dick in communications, and Graham Sayers in membership.
