Half + half a half = a full day of ‘fun’raising for school track!

Female athletes ran and walked in Wellington Saturday in the first women’s half and half-a-half marathon raising $5,000 to help resurface Wellington’s track.

The “It’s a girl thing,” event saw 360 women  cheering each other on, said organizer Lisa Lindsay.

Lindsay, a member of the Lakeshore Track Association, said the group has raised $94,000 toward the $130,000 needed to restore the only asphalt track in Prince Edward County. The resurfacing will enable Prince Edward County residents, athletes, and schools to continue programs and activities on a safe surface.

Erin Gregory, of Napanee, finished first in the half marathon with a time of 1:30:44. Leanne Sodden, of Belleville, finished first in the half-a-half with a time of 55:25.
