More hamburgers added to recall

pres-choice-burgersMore hamburgers are being recalled over concerns they may be contaminated with E. coli.

The recall affects President’s Choice Beef Burgers, Weber’s Bucket of Burgers Beef Burgers and Compliments Super 6 Beef Burgers. As of Oct. 9, seven confirmed and one suspect case of E. Coli have been reported in Ontario linked to the ongoing investigation of recalled beef burgers.

The recall is the result of an ongoing food safety investigation initiated as a result of a recent outbreak investigation. There may be recalls of additional products or best before dates as the food safety investigation at this facility continues, said the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

webers-burgersThe manufacturer, Belmont Meats Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling all affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall, said the CFIA.

OCT 3 – Warnings have been issued today not to consume certain hamburgers, Halloween kisses and bottled water.

recall-burgersToronto-based Belmont Meats Ltd. is recalling certain Compliments brand Super 8 Beef Burger patties because of an E. coli risk, and after illnesses linked to the product were reported.

The eight-ounce burger patties, sold frozen in packages of six with the UPC code of 0 55742 37055 3), have been sold in the four Atlantic provinces and Ontario in  Sobeys, Foodland,  FreshCo and Price Chopper.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning consumers not to eat the burgers, which may have been contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7. There have been reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product,  a CFIA news release says. The burgers may not look or smell spoiled but could cause serious illness.

Symptoms of E. coli contamination include severe abdominal cramping and diarrhea, and more seriously, could cause seizures or strokes.

recall-kissesThe CFIA and Original Foods are warning the public not to consume certain Original Brand Original Halloween Kiss candies because they may contain harmful pieces of metal.

The product, which says “made by Bonbons Associés” on the individual wrapper, was sold in bulk at locations across Canada. Retail-sized packages are not affected by this recall.

There have been no reported injuries associated with the consumption of this product.

The manufacturer, Original Foods, Quebec division, Quebec, QC is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the the recall.

recall-blue-glass-waterMeanwhile, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Arlene King, is warning consumers and businesses not to consume or serve bottled water manufactured by Blue Glass Water Co. Ltd., also known as Caledon Clear Water Corporation, based in Caledon Ontario.

Samples of water taken from the company’s products have been found to be heavily contaminated with bacteria.  As a result, there is a potential health threat posed by these products.

In accordance with Ontario’s Health Protection and Promotion Act, Blue Glass Water Co. Ltd was ordered to cease operations related to bottling, processing and distributing water on July 25th, 2013. To date, inspections by public health units have identified the products in food establishments in Hamilton and Niagara as well as the continued presence of the product in food establishments in Toronto.

Although no illnesses have been reported to date, the Ministry is carefully investigating and monitoring the situation with local public health units to ensure the public’s safety.
