Harvestin’ a delightful supper on the beach

Taste the County's Kathleen Kennedy and Grace Nyman join Mark Despault, of Sandbanks Provincial Park, and David Lewis, of Currahs, to promote this year's Harvestin' the County Supper, Thursday, Sept. 9. Tickets limited to 700 this year.

The parking lot beach of Sandbanks Provincial Park set the stage for the annual Harvestin’ the County Supper, Thursday, Sept. 9.
The event began four years ago in Bloomfield, as a lunch, then grew into a full-blown celebration supper held in Milford, then Wellington and last year on Main Street, Picton, serving 1,200 at the tables.
The events were produced by Taste the County, Prince Edward County’s destination marketing organization, and the Economic Development Office. The program was initiated by the economic development office to support local agriculture by encouraging the community to buy and eat locally-grown and crafted foods.
“Despite the community support of this fantastic local food event, the supper was set to be shelved due to funding reasons,” says Grace Nyman, of  Taste the County. “We were thrilled to hear that Chris Currah was interested in taking it over as he has been a large part of the special supper’s success. Currah’s had already done an amazing job of preparing unforgettable harvest meals for two out of the four years it has been running,” she said.
The Harvestin’ Supper now has a new fomat for 2010.  Community groups and businesses are welcome to host a “Harvestin’ Supper” of their own, using the logo to help promote the event. The food must be 100 per cent locally sourced and with sources cited on the menu.
There are just 700 tickets available for the Thursday, Sept. 9 event at The Sandbanks beach.  Tickets are $20 and include entrance to the park, after 3 p.m. There will be three seating times for dinner: 4p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Purchase tickets online at www.countytix.ca , by phone at 613.476.1991, or in person at the Festival Players Box Office located at Books & Company, 289 Main Street, Picton
