Students at Hastings Prince Edward District schools were recently recognized by The Terry Fox Foundation for reaching the milestone of $1.2 million – a fundraising total since the early 1980s.
Schools participate in annual Terry Fox Run/Walk events every September. The fundraising tally for the 2021 event was $65,895.
“Part of educating students is to help them learn about giving back and civic responsibility,” said Katherine MacIver, Director of Education. “Participating in a fundraising event like the Terry Fox Run/Walk is a way for students to connect with their communities and support a worthy cause. I am so proud of all HPEDSB students, their families and communities for their contribution and caring.”
Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB) serves approximately 15,000 students each day at 39 in-person schools (32 elementary, two K-12; four 7-12, one secondary) and one K-10 virtual school with approximately 1,800 teaching and support staff . The district covers a geographic area of 7,220 square kilometres bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south and Quinte West to the west.
