Home ransacked in day-time break-in

Jewellery valued at $7,000 has been reported stolen during a day-time break-in at a home on Centre Street in Picton.

Prince Edward OPP arriving at the scene at about 4:40 pm were informed by the victims that the home owner had gone to the front of the property to water flowers and found an unknown female outside the residence who presented herself to the homeowner as a potential purchaser of the home, which was for sale.

Upon realizing there was a possible last minute showing, the home owner quickly went inside to tidy up, only to find that the bedrooms had been ransacked and a theft had occurred. It is believed to have happened between noon and 1:15 p.m. The estimated value of the theft is approximately $7,000.

OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) attended to assist with the investigation. A possible suspect is described as female, in her 30s with tanned skinned, approximately 168 cm with a slim build, wearing a white blouse and black pants. She was described as having a long, black ponytail down to her hips and did not speak with any accent.

Anyone who may have information or witnessed anything is requested to contact Prince Edward OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS (8477).
