Hospice executive director resigns

Hospice Prince Edward Executive Director Laura Rickets tendered her resignation today.

Hospice board chair Peter Matthewman announced Tuesday morning that Laura Ricketts has resigned from her role as executive director effective Jan. 27, 2017 to assume a new position in her home community of Durham.

Ricketts joined the organization in March this year and was also the residential manager.

Earlier this month, at a Hospice Community meeting, Ricketts said she was honoured to be part of the Prince Edwad County community.

“I had no idea how deep an impact it would have on me on a personal level and I am honoured to be part of every palliative journey. I can’t think of anything more intimate, or more precious.”

She is Hospice Prince Edward’s second full-time executive director following the resignation in June, 2015 of Nancy Parks. Interim directors included Angela Jodoin and former Prince Edward Family Health Team executive director Stepanie MacLaren.

“Ricketts will assist Hospice Prince Edward in a smooth transition to new management,” said Matthewman. “The board expresses its sincere thanks for Ms. Ricketts’ compassionate and caring service to our Hospice and wishes her all the best in her future career.”

Hospice Prince Edward is a non-profit, non-denominational organization whose mandate is to provide palliative and bereavement support to families and individuals of all ages in Prince Edward County. For more information, www.hospiceprinceedward.ca.
