Hospice heartfelt thanks to County community

QuiltsNothing says warmth and comfort like a handmade quilt designed and stitched by members of the Prince Edward County Quilters’ Guild. These works of textile art are now part of the Community Residential Hospice care rooms at 40 Downes Avenue. Each room will have a selection of quilts that will be used by residents and their families when staying at the hospice home. All the fabric was generously donated by Gord Sirot in loving memory of his wife Connie, a gifted guild member. Hospice extended a sincere thank you to the many quilters for the lasting and thoughtful gifts offered to Nancy Parks, executive director HPE, by Betty Beaumont, Nancy Hicks, Maggie Goode, Gord Sirot and Rosanne Worden Hawker, representing the many quilters who worked on the project.

Fran-&-Kathy“From Your Home to Ours” was the theme for second annual County’s Largest Coffee Party, held in support of the Community Residential Hospice. On Thursday, June 13th, 50 hostesses opened their homes, churches, gardens, and community centres reaching from Massassauga Point to Waupoos and beyond.  It is estimated that more than 800 guests enjoyed County hospitality and raised a cup in support of Hospice. The grand total of $32,741 raised from the one day event was unveiled by committee member Fran Renoy, left, and co-chair Kathleen Hegedus-Beeksma. The committee extended a special thank you to Brad Lynd and Esther Howard from the County Coffee Roasters who sponsored the event by donating a bag of freshly roasted coffee to each party. The  remainder of committee members are  co-chair Karen Giraudy, Carolynn Whiteley, Nell Kottick, Marianne Malachowski, Myra Colby and Wayne Carruthers. The committee thanked everyone who opened their homes and their hearts to this event. Every contribution makes the ‘County’s Largest Coffee Party’ awareness campaign more than priceless.
