Hospice Prince Edward appoints executive director

Karen Moore has been welcomed as Hospice Prince Edward’s new Executive Director. She takes over from interim director Val MacDonald who has served in the position since January.

“We are excited about Karen’s extensive experience as an educator, trainer and end-of-life care specialist,” said Peter Matthewman, President of Hospice Prince Edward. “She brings a deep sense of commitment to our County’s palliative care work.”

Matthewman said her selection involved a detailed process drawing on expertise of 24 community stakeholders, as well as the Hospice’s own staff and volunteers.

“Everyone on the selection committee was given the opportunity to meet with the finalists for the position. The stakeholders were then asked to rank the finalists based on criteria that were deemed essential for the success of Hospice Prince Edward.

“Our palliative outreach, three bed residential hospice and grief and bereavement programs are so important for Prince Edward County’s families,” said Matthewman. “We believe Karen’s ability to communicate with families and work with community stakeholders will be critical as Hospice Prince Edward moves forward.”

Karen’s previous role as a Hospice Volunteers and Education Coordinator enabled her to develop Palliative Care skills. She will join the team at Hospice Prince Edward at 40 Downes Ave., Picton which includes Judy Fraser, Esther Howard, and Jane Moon, as well as more than 50 volunteers.

Matthewman said the board extended its sincere appreciation to Val MacDonald, CPA, for acting as the Interim Executive Director over the past several months.

“Not only did Val do a superb job but she has agreed to be available in the future to help Karen and the board as needed.” said Matthewman.
