The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Tag Day CHEERS! everybody who helped make the Friday, May 31 Tag Day an enormous success. For the first time, volunteers collected more than $5,000.

The weather co-operated with a lovely day, as more than 70 auxiliary volunteers turned out in Picton, Bloomfield and Wellington to collect donations which will go directly toward the purchase of a new stretcher for the emergency department in the Picton hospital.

“From the little boy who contributed the nickel in his pocket to teenagers on their lunch break who gave up their spare change, to long-time residents who gave so generously, every donation was warmly received,” said Dorothy Spiers, the auxiliary’s public relations person. “One tourist from British Columbia, who had been treated at our hospital during her stay in the County, remarked on the cleanliness and the efficiency of our hospital and recalled how kind everyone at PECMH had been during her stay.

“In these times when our health system is under such stress, it’s heartening indeed to know how much everyone values our hospital and those who serve in it,” said Speirs.

CHEERS! also to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church for providing space and congratulations to organizers Art Hewer, Beth McConnell and Joan Brown.
“And to all who gave, and to all who volunteered their time collecting, counting and making sandwiches, well done.”
