Hot, humid, muggy heat warning extended

Prepare to take over the kiddy pool, the shower or a chair by an air conditioner as this seemingly never ending string of heat warnings continues Thursday.

Environment Canada advises local humidex values are expected to reach 40 degrees with daytime temperatures around 32 degrees. Temperatures are to remain above 20 degrees at night and will provide little relief from the heat.

Friday is expected to be a few degrees cooler, but continuing warm and humid.

Hot and humid air also brings poor air quality and can cause the Air Quality Health index to approach the high risk category.

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health advises the extremely hot weather can lead to heat-related illnesses. Watch for symptoms of heat exhaustion, which include skin rash, muscle cramps, swelling of hands, feet and ankles, heavy sweating, dizziness, headache or fainting, nausea or vomiting, rapid breathing and heartbeat, extreme thirst, and decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine.

People experiencing any of these symptoms during a heat event should immediately move to a cool place and drink water. During hot weather, make efforts to check in with neighbours, friends, and older family members frequently, especially those at higher risk, to make sure that they are cool and hydrated.
