Impromptu community pumpkin path pops up at Wellington museum garden

The garden at Wellington’s Heritage Museum was adorned with carved pumpkins over Halloween weekend.

Organized by Wellington resident Nick Van Cott, the magic patch of orange pumpkins were carved by members of the community and displayed to perfection against a backdrop of the fading perennial gardens.

Situated just behind the museum building on Main Street, the garden is a quiet place to sit and reflect. Van Cott felt the venue would work well for a walk-through type event where people could enjoy the pumpkins without being in a crowded situation.

Some of the creations were spooky, some humorous, there were cute pumpkins, gory pumpkins and head scratching pumpkins, and many were illuminated once darkness fell.

While the idea for a Halloween event was organized at short notice, the community rallied with many individuals and businesses jumping on board willing to carve a pumpkin, or two.

The 50 pumpkins were donated by Lakeshore Farms, Wellington Home Hardware supplied the lighting and local resident Kelly Atwells also helped with hauling and carving. Van Cott said he is hoping it will become an annual event.
