Inaugural Partners in Pink golf tourney raises $64,000 for mammography machine

The inaugural Partners in Pink Golf Tournament was a swinging success, raising just over $64,000 in support of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (PECMH) Foundation.

Hosted at Wellington Golf Course earlier this month, the sold-out event welcomed 18 teams and 72 golfers for a day filled with camaraderie, community spirit and a commitment to advancing local health care.

Proceeds from the tournament will support the purchase of a new digital mammography machine for the new County hospital — an essential diagnostic tool for early breast cancer detection. The current unit, in use for more than 12 years, is nearing end-of-life, and replacement is estimated to cost nearly $1 million.

Personal connections shared on the course underscored the importance of having advanced diagnostic care close to home.

“The success of our first Partners in Pink tournament speaks volumes about the compassion and generosity that define Prince Edward County,” said Shannon Coull, executive director of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation. “Every golfer, sponsor, committee member, and volunteer has helped to ensure people in our community have access to advanced diagnostic technology.”

The event featured lively on-course activities, creative pink décor, and a strong spirit of generosity throughout the day. The leadership of the Partners in Pink Golf Committee and the enthusiasm of all involved made the inaugural tournament both fun and impactful.

“Seeing so many people come together in support of local health care was truly inspiring,” said Kelley Derrett, Partners in Pink Golf Committee member. “This tournament was built on teamwork, compassion, and community pride — and we’re thrilled to have made such a meaningful impact in our first year.”

The Partners in Pink Golf Committee extends heartfelt thanks to all who made the event possible. This year’s Title Sponsors were Bay of Quinte Mutual Insurance Co., Scotiabank Global Markets, and the Oberste Family. The Pink Ribbon Champion was Augustus House Bed and Breakfast, and Pink Tee Supporters included Decanter, Gillingham Brewing Company, PhysioHouse Wellington, The Newsroom Suites, Wellington Community Market, Wellington District Business Association, Wellington Pharmacy, Wild Card Promo, and Willful.

“The purchase of a new digital mammography machine is a $1 million investment in the future of our community’s health,” added Nancy Parks, Back the Build Campaign Chairperson. “Events like this help bring us closer to that goal, and we hope others will join us in ensuring that the best diagnostic care is available right here at home in Prince Edward County.”

The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Back the Build campaign is raising $30 million to help build and equip a new hospital in Prince Edward County, ensuring residents and visitors continue to have access to high-quality, compassionate care close to home.
