Jamie Kennedy named Order of Canada member

CHEERS! to renowed Canadian Chef Jamie Kennedy, a part-time County resident, who was named a Member of the Order of Canada last week for his promotion of Canadian cuisine and the use of organic, sustainable and locally sourced foods.
“Thanks so much everyone for your felicitations. It means so much to me, and so meaningful for our sector to be recognized in this way,” said Jamie on his website at http://www.jamiekennedy.ca/
In a career that has spanned three decades, Kennedy is among the most celebrated chefs in Canada. His pioneering farm-to-table practices have transformed the culinary landscape of the country, and his Gilead Bistro in Toronto continues to celebrate slow food methods while forging new avenues in local gastronomy.
David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, announced 54 new appointments to the Order of Canada. The new appointees include 12 Officers (O.C.), and 42 Members (C.M.). These appointments were made on the recommendation of the Advisory Council for the Order of Canada.

Recipients will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
The Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest civilian honours, was established in 1967, during Canada’s centennial year, to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation. Over the last 40 years, more than 5 000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order.
The list of recipients, with short citations, and a backgrounder on the Order of Canada are attached. For more information on the Canadian Honours System, visit http://www.gg.ca/document.aspx?id=5.

Kennedy, in the summer of 2010, was among recipients of the first Governor General’s Award in Celebration of the Nation’s Table. The award recognizes and celebrates outstanding efforts in improving the quality, variety and sustainability of all elements and ingredients of the nation’s table.
