Glenwood Cemetery is hosting a special information session Tuesday, Nov. 5th at 2 pm in The Chapel on Green Burials and prepayment for interments.
Green burials are an environmentally-friendly option for interment now available at at the Picton cemetery.
Maria DiMauro, a lawyer with Pretsell Davies Thompson Benton LLP, and the cemetery’s newest board member, will be on hand to answer legal questions regarding green burials and prepayment options.
“Green Burial is a statement of personal values for those who seek to minimize their impact on the local and global environment,” said Helma Oonk, manager/cemeterian. “For people who are mindful of the cyclical nature of life, green burial is a spiritually fulfilling alternative to conventional burial or cremation. It is an environmentally sensitive practice: the body is returned to the earth to decompose naturally and contribute to new life.”
A separate section at Glenwood has been developed to offer Green Burials in the natural green forest which is specially designed to permit human remains to be returned to the earth as naturally as possible.
