While headstones and grave markers are normally positioned over burial sites, these makers can be lost or mis-positioned as time passes. Some cemeteries are hundreds of years old and encountering unmarked graves has become a common occurrence.
“Encountering unmarked or improperly marked graves can be difficult and create embarrassing problems for those responsible for cemeteries,” said Helma Oonk, manager at Glenwood Cemetery in Picton.
There will be a demonstration on how to use the grave finding device at Glenwood Cemetery on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. Oonk notes the machinery will help locate unmarked graves in Prince Edward County.
