Library plans interesting fall sessions during dog days of summer

Have you ever tried to do an online search for an ailment or symptom only to end up nearly misdiagnosing yourself using bad or unclear information? It’s not uncommon – it’s hard to find good information you can use online.

To help you have access to reliable and quality information, this fall, the Prince Edward County Library will be planning a series of talks and workshops about health, wellness and finding reliable health information online.

Thanks to a Seniors Programs grant through the Ontario government, we’ll offer programs at each of the library’s six branches and are welcoming suggestions and ideas.

Examples of speakers might be allied healthcare providers, people focusing on aspects of wellness such as relaxation and stress reduction, or experts on healthcare and the healthcare system. There are so many different ways to approach the topic of health and wellness, and we look forward to sharing some ideas and information with you.

The programs will be targeted to seniors but of course everyone will be welcome to participate. If you have suggestions for topics you would be interested in learning about, please email liz@peclibrary.org – I’d be happy to hear your suggestions and use them in our planning process.

Another exciting new group will soon start at the Picton Branch Library. Oriella Stillo is planning a new group that invites fans of supernatural fiction, urban fantasy, speculative fiction, and more to join for conversation and connection.

Readers, writers, movie and TV fans, and more, are welcome to join in. All adults are welcome, and the schedule will be set at the first meeting. If you’re interested in joining, please reach out to Oriella directly at orstillo@gmail.com and she’ll notify you of the date and time. Our thanks to Oriella for lending her enthusiasm and experience to this group.

The Friends of the Bloomfield Branch Library are launching a new book club this fall. They’re calling it “Not Your Average Book Club”. In a twist on the book club concept, each month the group will read something in a genre or topic of interest (for example, one month might be mysteries and the next month nonfiction) and share about their books with the group. The first meeting theme is “The best book you read this summer” and future themes will be chosen by the group. It’s sure to be a great way to learn about new titles and authors and get to know other readers. The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. Drop in or register at peclibrary.org. All are welcome.

These are just a few of the programs we’re planning for the fall. Other topics in the works include presentations about Artificial Intelligence, new storytime and children’s programs and more.

Prince Edward County offers six library branches with programs and services for everyone. Visit peclibrary.org to find upcoming events, the latest new books, and more.
