The Prince Edward Learning Centre presents a fundraising performance of “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” at The Regent Theatre, Saturday, Nov. 16th at 8 p.m.

Starring Canadian funny woman, Deborah Kimmett, a regular on CBC Radio’s ‘The Debaters’ (http://kimmett.ca/)  the show features Jennifer Warr and Lori Farrington, both PELC staff members and local actors in the theatre community.

Also joining forces with PELC Executive Director Kathy Kennedy to bring this show to the stage are staff, students, board members and volunteers dressing up and stepping out in support of literacy.

“Love, Loss, and What I Wore” is organized as a series of monologues and uses a rotating cast of women. The subject matter of the monologues includes women’s relationships and wardrobes and at times the interaction of the two, using the female wardrobe as a time capsule of a woman’s life.  The play uses clothing as a metaphor for women’s experiences.

PELC’s aim is to raise money for student success and awareness of the need for adult literacy in Prince Edward County.  According to the recent Vital Signs report, 15 per cent of PEC adults aged 25-64 have no certificate, diploma or degree, compared to 11 per cent in Ontario overall.  PELC works with hundreds of people per year to achieve education and employment goals.

Prince Edward Learning Centre is an adult literacy and basic skills agency serving all of Prince Edward County.  Their learners, and their reasons for attending, vary.  There isn’t a ‘typical’ learner, but lots of common themes – poverty, depression, anxiety, poor health, poor self-concept, marginalization, feelings of inadequacy and hopelessness.  PELC aims to work with people to make the changes that they want to make in their lives.

Tickets at the door. $22.
